Our Team

Mountain Marine Transportation Ltd. was incorporated January 13, 2000. The two founders (and brother’s-in-law), Kevin MacKenzie and Garth McKeil had both been involved in family-owned towing businesses up to this point. Kevin and Garth are licensed Captains and experienced tug operators Their marine expertise is supplemented in the office by the business experience of their Office Manager, James Breadner the retired Owner/Manager of Prince George Petroleum Ltd., a Texaco Agent, previous to this he managed the Texaco Marine outlets on the BC coast and was involved in the administration of Gulf of Georgia’s Barging and oil transportation division. This wealth of experience is shored up by both principal’s long family history, of ownership and operating within the marine industry, spanning at least three generations.

Kevin's experience:

Prior to starting Mountain Marine, Kevin MacKenzie had previously worked with his father in MacKenzie Sea Services since 1989, based in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast and previous to that for his father at Seaforth Towing out of Port Moody. Seaforth's main focus was ship berthing and Kevin learned his trade initially in this industry. He worked his way up from deckhand to Mate and finally Master. He is also an experienced crane operator and has spent much of his time in the marine construction field, performing turnkey jobs from quoting to towing to fabricating and pile driving. Kevin is certified as a sport diver and through Burrard Clean in the Marine Oil Spill Workforce. In addition to his experience and abilities, Kevin provides knowledge of the local Industry and the area of operation.

Garth's experience:

Prior to starting Mountain Marine he worked in a family tug business, McKeil Marine Ltd, which serves the Great Lakes, Eastern Canada and Atlantic Seaboard. From 12 yrs old on he spent his summers working on the boats and served in capacities from deckhand to Master as the years progressed. He worked one summer for Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a teenager and two years with the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority serving as a Linesman and training for Master on their tug as well as serving as assistant engineer on the same vessel. After this stint with the Seaway, Garth returned to the family business. Upon his return he served as Captain, Purchasing Agent, Marine Superintendent on major projects such as providing 11 barges, two ferries and a tug for the Hibernia construction project and finally as Operations Manager. McKeil Marine Ltd. worked with the Great Lakes Response Corporation as service provider and Garth served in various capacities from Capt. of a response vessel to Company liaison. His responsibilities included looking after a fleet in excess of 20 vessels and 40 barges and 130 crew.
